if it perhaps was unwise to predicate my understanding of the world upon lyrics from Led Zeppelin songs, quotes from Star Wars and the Simpsons, and the funny feeling I get in my stomach when I see something (or someone) beautiful. Maybe I should have studied quantum physics and read me some Proust or the such like.
Or maybe everybody else is a bit fucked and I´m on target.

At least you're aware of what the prism you see the world through is made up of. And many people today understand the world in terms of America's Next Top Model, so in a way you're in the cultural elite.
